An eighteen-year-old whom was diagnosed with Congenital insensitivity to pain, meaning he can't feel pain. It was hard growing up, having so many problems because he never felt pain as an infant, so he never knew he was injuring himself. When he was two, he was rubbing his right eye and pulling on it so bad that it became badly injured and it had to be surgically removed; now he just has a cleaned-out, rather interesting-looking eye socket that he keeps an eye path over. His parents couldn't afford to take care of him so he was sent to an orphanage where he received even less attention and only injured himself further. He was finally hospitalized when he electrocuted himself when he stuck a wet fork an over-worked electric socket. He didn't even cry. He stayed in the hospital for a couple years, and when he was eleven he was finally adopted by a family whom could afford him both financially and emotionally. They cared for him deeply, took good care of him, and did everything in their power to help him. When he was fourteen he began getting interested in the dark arts and set the house on fire with candles by accident, killing his adopted parents and burning his body pretty badly. He lived in the (same) orphanage again until he turned 18 (recently), and they kicked him out and told him to go "get a life". Since the death of his adoptive parents he's fallen into depression, always threatening to injure himself to get his way, and it's always worked. He's probably stubborn, hates not getting his way, and probably dislikes people whom don't do as he says. He was taught to say 'ow' whenever he felt pressure, though, so he'll still say that on occasion, but not if he's trying to get his way with something. If you think I give a shit, you don't know me, though if you think you've got a better reference, you ought to show me. So, basically, I decided I really like this idea and this guy. But other than the ideas already presented above, I don't have too much else floating around my head. Probably because I can't concentrate on anything very well (lately my depression and bipolar have been effecting me pretty bad, and I've actually begun thinking about suicide again, where as before I just wanted to but wouldn't; now I'm starting to not care about how others might experience grief, but that aside). So. P: Ideas plz? c:

I don't have many ideas, nothing amazing, honestly. I just feel like saying some things about CIPA, since it's a very fascinating disease case. durr. /nerd
So, you probably already know all this, but just in case I feel like asking.
→ How does he know if his body is getting too hot or too cold? Since a CIPA patient can't feel either extremities does he check his temperature every hour or so? Is he aware of the fact that he can't even get too physically close to someone in the danger that his body might over-heat?
→ CIPA patients usually don't live over childhood due to various things, as such, does he check over his entire body regularly to check for cuts and other wounds?
→ CIPA patients oft feel nothing at all within their own bodies, which means they also usually cannot feel the need to release their bowel and bladder, so does he have some sort of timer or alarm to remind him of this fact?
Uhh, yeah. That's all I got for now, sorry for my lack of help. Ahah, this is what I get for watching House so much. x333 If everything else fails, why not try answering one of those "100 Questions you should know about your Character" Quizzes? Or actually try writing with him? Regardless of what you know or do not know about him just yet. /shrugs

Ohgawd, you're using that House episode as a reference? Just to tell you, that's not 100% accurate, according to my AP Psych class. We actually talked about it and watched a video about a little girl whom had it, and I got a lot of my ideas from her.
1. Those with the disease are able to feel hot and cold--or at least, some of them. The little girl in the video we watched did, and Cassidy would be able to. They can feel when it's in extremes, but with those extremes, most people associate pain; however, because of the CITP, he cannot actually experience pain. There are verified receptors in the skin for hot and cold, and pressure (he can also feel pressure). He was taught that if he's in really warm or really cold water and his skin gets too red, that he needs to make it either cooler or warmer depending upon what it already is. His adopted parents would always check his temperature and for awhile he got in the habit of doing the same (at the hospital, it was always monitored for him), but where he is in life right now, he probably has stopped that since he doesn't really care.
2. He does actually check over himself regularly (or, at least, rather, whenever he remembers xD). He always had to do that, the hospital and his adoptive parents got him into that habit and he doesn't see a reason to stop. He also has weekly meetings with his doctor whom checks him over and takes constant x-rays to check for broken bones, and other scans to check for problems within his body.
3. This is also false, if I remember from the video correctly; probably taken from data of children, of course they can't control themselves, they don't realize that they can, yet. Since I believe I remember the little girl in the video being at least somewhat able to do this on her own, and since he's had a lot of help in his life, I'm saying that Cassidy is able to control his bladder and bowels. c: He can also feel the 'pang' in his stomach of hunger, but there is no pain to it, just a sensation that he's learned to correlate with hunger. Only thing is, he never eats until he feels that sensation, even though he's been trained to eat at certain times of the day (by the hospital and the deceased adopted parents).
Yeah, I'll probably do something like that. I already have something I use, so I'll do that after my finals today or something. x3
