Routes. They're pretty much the most annoying thing since history began; you have to go through them to get to the next city, and they're not always easy. You have two options when it comes to routes.
1. You can choose to actually roleplay them (though you may have to start off in the Public Thread if you don't have a traveling partner for that character). 2. You can choose to write up an essay response to a prompt in order to "skip" the route.
Everyone has their own preference, and people who actually roleplay through the routes will have many more opportunities; the possibility of finding items, battling new trainers, making new friends, and seeing, catching, and battling new Pokémon. But some people have their reasons, so let's get into some more detail.

Public and Private Threads
Public Thread: Every single route has one of these, and it's a sticky. If you do not have a traveling partner for your character but wish for them to meet up with one, this is where you must post.
Private Thread: A thread where you at least one more member, if not more, are roleplaying at least one character each as they travel through the route together. Note that you may not RP just your own two characters going through the route together, that doesn't count. You may not create a private thread unless your character has a traveling partner.
So, you can either pre-arrange traveling companions by speaking to other members personally or you may post your character's introduction on the Public Thread, have them meet someone there, and move to a private thread.
Note that: -Your character may not go through the route on the Public Thread. *The Public Thread is only to find traveling partners. In fact, don't even post more than once unless no one has taken the initiative to interact with your character for quite a few posts. -Wild Pokémon will never appear in the Public Thread. -You may not create a private thread without a traveling partner.
Once you have found a traveling companion for your character(s), you must both post in bold which character(s) of your own are leaving and create a Private Thread to finish traversing the route together. Naturally, you'll leave off where you left off RPing-wise.

Skip A Route Without Paying
Now, this may sound too good to be true. And guess what? You're right.
This is also called the "Route Prompt Skip", or... whatever you may feel like calling it.
It works like this. Every route has a "Prompts" sticky. In each of these will be three prompts. Every route will have one unique prompt, which will not appear elsewhere on the site; the other two will be generic ones that are almost all used here and there for other routes. You only need to do one of these prompts. You post it on that sticky, too; once a gmod or admin have reviewed it, they will post Complete in the Admin Notes section of your post, and that means you are allowed to move on to the next route--even if you're just going to skip that one, as well.
Keep all this in mind: 1. There will be no catching of Pokémon through prompts. 2. There will be no battling of NPC trainers through prompts. 3. If you don't have at least the minimum character count, even if you're 1 character under, it won't be considered finished and we'll tell you to go finish it.
Now here's the final twist: each prompt has a minimum word count. Meaning you have to have that many words for the prompt to count.
Route-specific prompts, the unique ones that are specific to that route obviously) have a minimum word count of 3,000. Generic prompts, the ones that show up everywhere, have a minimum word count of 2,500.
Important: At the top of your post, centered if possible, should be the actual word count number of how many words are in the prompt.
