i. When signing up for a contest, please specify (in the first post of your attempt) which ribbon you are trying to attain. There are five categories; Cool, Tough, Smart, Beauty, and Cute. You will not be allowed to begin your contest challenge if you do not make note of the ribbon you want to try for, so please bear that in mind.
ii. Every Contest Hall caters to each of the five different categories--"Classes", as we'll call them here. Each Contest Hall has a theme for each ribbon class, and those themes change weekly; each contest hall will get a new set of class themes. The theme you must follow depends upon when you first post. Even if you post before the themes are changed on a Sunday, you must use the new designated theme.
iii. All contest challenges must be completed within 21 days of your first post in a contest hall. If, however, a moderator fails to post after 2 days of your post, every day after that will not be counted against you.
iv. Contests are broken up into three "Rounds", aka stages or parts:
round 1.
The challenger will dress up their Pokémon using the [doll maker still to be created], keeping in mind the four categories that they will be judged on: Theme, Class (Smart/Cute/Cool/Beauty/Tough), Uniqueness, and Consistency.
Theme: How well it matches the weekly theme for that ribbon type. Class: How smart, cute, cool, beautiful, or tough the accessories help make the Pokémon look. Uniqueness: How creatively the accessories are used. Consistency: How well the look is pulled together, as opposed to using clashing colors. Your judge will award you between 1 and 5 points in each of these categories; you will be able to earn up to 20 points in this round. To progress to round 2, you must earn a minimum of fourteen points. *Note: Using accessories that you do not own will disqualify you from challenging the contest again for 7 days.
round 2.
For every five points you earned in the previous round, you will be allowed one turn in this round--meaning if you earn 15 points, that's 3 turns; if you only earn 14, that's 2 turns. A turn consists of using up to 1 attack and 1 non-attack move. *A non-attack move is anything that does not directly hurt a Pokémon in a fight; moves that cause status changes are attacks. Moves such as Confusion are non-attacks; moves like Thundershock are attacks. It is not using both that earns you the points; it is how you can describe your Pokémon making an appeal utilizing the visual of the attacks. The more dramatic it seems, the better you'll probably do. *Note that if you try to be over-the-top and act perfect, points will be deducted.
Judging will consists of more points. For each turn, or appeal, you will be awarded between 1 and 5 points on the following scale: 1. Performance was lackluster and not pleasing to watch. 2. Performance was lackluster, but used two moves together. 3. Performance was decent, with either a very nice single move or an effective combination of two moves. 4. Challenger performed two moves together effectively. 5. Challenger performed an extremely pleasing-to-watch combination of two moves. *Notice that you cannot earn above 3 points for using only a single move. For each turn, you can earn up to 5 points; that's up to 20 points if you manage to earn all 4 turns based upon your first round.
round 3.
This round is the judging and where you are either awarded your ribbon or told to try again next week.
Based on your round 2 results, you may have earned an additional 5 to 20 points. So your score will be between 21 and 40.
To pass round 2, you must earn a minimum of 30 points. It is possible to earn 30 points in only 2 turns; you just have to do it very smartly.
The color of the ribbon you earn designates what Class you entered. Cool is Red. Tough is Yellow. Smart is Green. Beauty is Blue. Cute is Pink.
v. Completing round 1, but not round 2, will earn your Pokémon 1 level. Winning the ribbon will earn your Pokémon 2 levels. If you do not pass round 1, your Pokémon will not gain any levels. For winning the ribbon, you will also be awarded a sum of prize money and an accessory. The accessory you earn will be based upon the ribbon class you won. If you get a perfect score of 40, you will also be awarded an extremely rare, exclusive item from the contest master.
vi. In order to challenge the Contest Elite, of which there are five--one for each Class--your Pokémon must have a minimum of 70 Attribute Points (see next post) and all four Contest Hall ribbons in your chose Class, as well as 20 AP in all of the other categories.

Attribute Points
Attribute Points, or AP, is how we calculate "levels" of coordination classes--Cool, Tough, Smart, Beauty, and Cute. Each coordinator must keep track of each of their Pok?mon's AP; all Pokémon start out at an AP Level of 0, and may obtain a maximum of 100 AP.
- What AP is for.
AP is required to enter all but the first Contest Hall. In fact: Contest Hall #1, Normal, requires 0 AP. Contest Hall #2, Super, requires 10 AP. Contest Hall #3, Hyper, requires 25 AP. Contest Hall #4, Master, requires 45 AP. To enter the Elite Contest Challenge, 70 AP is required.
What kind of AP? To challenge a contest that requires AP, you must have those AP in the ribbon class you are challenging. If you wish to challenge a Master-Rank Smart Class, for instance, the Pokémon you are entering must have an AP level of 25 in the Smart category.
Also, when in a challenge, for every 10 AP you have in that category, you will have one point added to each round's final score--meaning, if you have maxed out that AP category, you could earn up to 10 additional points per round. So you can really save yourself out there; thus, it is advised that you collect AP at every opportunity.
- How to get AP.
There are various ways to get AP. The main method is earning it through contests, as well as various "Mini Challenges", MCs, scattered throughout Kairuu.
Every time you win a contest hall ribbon, your Pokémon is awarded 10 AP in that category. If you beat the Elite Contest Challenge, your Pokémon is awarded 20 AP in that category. Occasionally, you might see some sort of event pop up that will award AP to the victor(/s). Only events approved by an admin may award any AP at all, and most will only award small amounts; however, occasionally an admin might start one that will give you a decent sum of it, so be sure to participate if you see one! Always check AP events out.
Berries. In Kairuu, berries that have the effect of raising statuses (classes/categories) raise AP. How much? For every 10 points in each of the Berry Categories (Spicy, Dry, Sweet, Bitter, Sour), a Pokémon will gain 1 AP in that category (Cool, Beauty, Cute, Smart, Tough). If it has more than one flavor, then it adds to more than one category. Example: A Pokémon eats a Rowap Berry. It gains 4 points in 'Tough' for it's extremely sour flavor, and 1 point in 'Cool' for it's spicy flavor. *If a berry has a flavor level that ends in '5', such as 25 or 35, the points given are rounded down--25 is 2 points, 35 is 3 points. However--if your Pokémon consumes a pair, you may count these together for the extra point. Berries that have many flavors, or even all flavors--Lansat and Starf--will, indeed, add points to many categories.
Mini Challenges - MCs. Throughout Kairuu, there will be many places where an NPC will challenge your coordinator to an "MC". These mini challenges vary greatly, from doing a task to a battle-like challenge against the NPC's Pok?mon, to an actual battle. Some will only pop up throughout the Kairuu routes and cities/towns/etc., while some will show up in Other Areas. If you pay attention, you might even find one in Events!
Successfully completing an MC will give your Pokémon AP in certain areas. Each MC is different and will award to different AP categories. Most MCs will reward one AP in the designated category upon completion, but some will award in more than one category, while others may award more than one point. MCs are a definite useful tool to any coordinator.
MCs are not required, but be warned; while you can return to most, there are some that will disappear for good--the better the AP reward, the more likely it is that you won't be able to come back to it! So it's best to take on any challenges when you see them.
Items There are various items that exist that will up your AP count. Berries are items, but we already discussed those.
Hold Items are what we're talking about here. In Kairuu, many hold items have a bonus effect that will benefit coordinators: they temporarily, meaning only while they are being held, boost your Pok?mon's AP in the designated category. This is a good way to get a quick fix on AP if you're in a rush to challenge a Hall, but are a bit short on the required AP.
So, what items do this, and how much do they give?
Shards (& heart scale) are +1 bonus AP. Hold/battle effect items are +3 bonus AP. Scarves are +5 bonus AP. *Note: Silk Scarf does not count as one of the "scarves"; it is a hold item.
Anything Else? Yes. When you max out an AP category, your Pokémon will gain five levels for it's hard work. Also, for maxing out a category, your Pokémon will be awarded an Effort Ribbon in that class; so it's possible to earn up to five Effort Ribbons. Effort Ribbons are colored-coded, and you get the color that shows which category you maxed out. To get your Effort Ribbon, take your Pokémon to the Ribbon Society Reception Counter.
