The moon is full
but there is an incompleteness
Full name ;;
Wyatt Emmett Donovan
Nicknames ;;
Wyatt has never had a nickname, and it's probably best if you don't try to come up with any. He might not realize you're talking to him.
Sex ;;
Undoubtedly male
Age ;;
Nineteen
Date of birth ;;
November 27
Place of birth ;;
Mossdeep City, Hoenn Region
Ethnicity ;;
There's got to be at least a few good Irish genes in Wyatt for him to have all that red hair - that'd be from his dad's side of the family. Aside from that, his mother's British background, not to mention a bit of his grandmother's German heritage, have helped mold his features.
Sexual Orientation ;;
Wyatt’s still pretty confused about this, but he has started to think that he leans towards being bisexual, if only because, at this point, he would probably take anyone who could actually understand him. However, he’s not all that optimistic about ever finding them.
Careful, though -- he might latch on to you if he decides you're worth it.
Family ;;
Wyatt, if he so chose, is normally able to win the 'my parents are older' game. His mother, Julie, was forty when she had him, which makes her fifty-nine now. His father, Mark, is a year younger at fifty-eight. Sibling-wise, it's only through technicality is he's not an only child. His older brother Jake - whom Wyatt can count on one hand the amount of times he's seen - is twenty-eight. Truthfully, Wyatt's a lot closer to his uncle Curtis, who just recently celebrated his forty-ninth birthday, than he'll ever be with his sibling.
Career Path ;;
Though he might not be so confident about it, Wyatt has always wanted to be a Pok?mon trainer.
The days are beautiful
but I feel a bitter sweetness
Appearance;;
Many a woman has fawned over the mess of curly hair on top of Wyatt’s head. His curls vary in thickness, from the thinner ones peeking out along the sides of his chin to the heavier, more predominant ones from his ears up. The color varies as well, from a darker shade of red to more golden highlights, natural from birth, which tend to show up more insistently when there’s sunlight about. Between his hair and his pair of soft, copper brown eyes, not to mention a face not yet showing signs past youth, his mother has said he could probably charm anyone based on looks alone.
Past his looks, Wyatt has a fairly average frame, with wide shoulders and a hint of muscles along his arms and legs. He’d probably get a few distant admirers if he spent a day at the beach with his shirt off, but it’s not like he has a six pack or anything, mostly because Wyatt just doesn’t care about enhancing his appearance. Going to the gym, or lifting weights on his own, have never been his thing, but he’s always enjoyed his alone time walking in the woods behind his house, spending hours at a time out in the wilderness admiring the sights, if not the sounds. Often enough he returns from these expeditions with a nice rash of red across any uncovered body part, mostly due to forgetting to put on sunscreen -Wyatt both tans and burns very easily. Overall, however his complexion is slightly on the pale side. He blames all three of these facts on his heritage, but is generally happy with how he looks.
Following his father’s genetic tradition, Wyatt is fairly tall, though at 5’11” he doesn’t quite reach the six foot mark. He’s also got a fast metabolism, so he tends to stick around an average weight of 155 pounds. Generally, he doesn't bother too much with his appearance, simply donning whatever loose shirt is handy and a pair of jeans. The one thing that stays consistent is the long-sleeved over shirt that Wyatt wears as a jacket despite the fact that it doesn't close up. He'll take this off if it gets too hot, but even then it's tucked away within reach in his bag.
If I had a wish
or even a choice
Personality ;;
Wyatt just another teenaged boy who’s often frustrated with the rest of the world, but for an entirely different set of reasons. Most of his attempts to communicate in the past have been met with confusion, or simply ignored by others who didn’t want to seem ignorant. Because of his lack of success, Wyatt rarely likes to make the first move, instead choosing to wait and observe while trying not to seem like he’s that interested. If someone does bother to approach him, however, he does make an honest effort to communicate with them.
Wyatt hates being snuck up on. Keep in mind, though, that he has an entirely different concept of the term; as far as he’s concerned, if you walk up to him from any direction but the front, you’re ‘sneaking’. He also hates admitting that anyone may have surprised or started him. To hide his reaction if someone does succeed, he tends to try and give off an ‘I knew that’ sort of air when he does acknowledge that they’re there. The raised head, the way his eyes look down his nose – it’s all for show. Try to keep that in mind before you judge him a snob, because, despite his attitude, he doesn’t really want to alienate anyone.
In fact, the thing Wyatt wants most is to be understood and accepted. It’s just that, with all the difficult he’s had in the past – and with his habit of not fully believing anyone who actually makes an effort – he finds it hard to believe that it’ll ever happen.
Ironically, for all his desire to be understood by others, Wyatt often misunderstands things that go on around him due to the quick assumptions he tends to make. The fact that he doesn’t take kindly to laughter around him is a perfect example. He’s always prepared and ready to think that if someone’s laughing, it’s because of him – and since he doesn’t think he’s very funny, he assumes that people are laughing at him, not with him. If he knows the cause, however, it is possible to get a bit of a smile out of him as well. Don't expect much more than that, though, because Wyatt doesn’t laugh.
Just as no sounds make their way into his head, none make it out, either. Unless you’re incredibly lucky or persistent – most likely the former, because Wyatt is very good at tuning out things he doesn’t want to hear – you’ll never see more than the silent laughter he indulges in from time to time. Wyatt’s very insecure when it comes to his voice. Like most deaf people, his voice has a flat, monotone sort of quality, and though he’s never heard it himself, he absolutely hates it and is convinced that people will tease him if he makes an attempt to converse in anything more than his hand signs. If you bother to try and find him alone with his Pokémon, however, there’s the slimmest of chances that you might find him practicing human speech with the only things he considers friends.
Yes, however much Wyatt yearns to be accepted by others, he is riddled by too many insecurities when it comes to being around other people. Many of these stem from childhood, back when others were too young to bother holding back what they thought about the strange boy who needed so much extra attention to keep up with everyone else in class. However, given time in this new region, with Pokémon who can suddenly not only understand him, but actually respond back, it’s entirely possible that he’ll be able to loosen up and enjoy life like he’s always wanted to.
History ;;
Wyatt Donovan was born into a world of silence.
The doctors said it was because the nerve endings in his ears didn’t fully form while he was in the womb. They also said it wasn’t something surgery could easily cure. Luckily, his parents were willing and ready to take on all the responsibility that came with having a deaf child. They taught him basic signs for him to use as an infant. They applauded and praised his signing efforts as a toddler. Together, they developed a language of communication between them and their happy young son, who had no idea that he was any different from anyone else.
This youthful naivety changed when he was around four or so – the turning point being the small daycare his parents took him to, to try out something new and give him a chance to interact with kids his own age. It was here that he first discovered that not everyone used the hand signals he had been taught from birth, but, albeit a bit put off by this, he still managed to get along with the others enough to play with them. At this stage, where he hadn’t yet learned to read lips, he missed the comments about him that passed between the other children.
As he grew older, however, he became more aware of exactly why the other kids seemed less willing to hang out with ‘someone like him’. Some he had known since daycare just couldn’t master the signs needed to communicate with him, so they didn’t want to bother. Others didn’t find him ‘cool’ enough to pal around with. A couple were goaded by friends to stay away. Whatever the reason, Wyatt found himself lacking in the ‘friend’ category all throughout his middle and high school years. He can’t say it didn’t affect him, because as they grew more distant, he grew less and less enthusiastic about the world around him, and the people in it. His family noticed the changes going on, but nothing they tried seemed to make him feel better.
That is, until Uncle Curtis decided to make another trip out from Lilycove. Wyatt had always been close to his uncle – Curtis had been the only one Wyatt had tolerated teaching to sign long enough for, so they could actually converse on his visits. Usually, his bachelor uncle came alone. This time, however, he had someone with him. His companion was a young Shuppet who, as he put it, had been following him like a puppy ever since he came across her in Mt. Pyre on one of his excursions there. Spirits already lifted by the fact that his uncle was there, Wyatt showed a good deal of interest, and the Pokémon was surprisingly receptive to his curiosity. So much, in fact, that she abandoned her pursuit of Wyatt’s uncle and began to follow the boy around instead for the duration of the visit.
When it came time for Curtis to leave, he was more than happy to leave the ghost Pokémon behind, certain that Wyatt would take excellent care of her even if he had never had a Pokémon before. After all, his father had been a fine trainer in his youth, so it was reasoned that he could help Wyatt become the same.
And help he did. The Shuppet – whom Wyatt officially named Cara, though he tended to simply sign its meaning, ‘friend’, whenever he wanted her attention – quickly became a member of the family, and Mark Donovan helped Wyatt come up with special signs as a way of easily communicating how he wanted her to act, calling the moves out loud as Wyatt signed them. The ghost-type picked up on what they were doing almost immediately, and was soon following Wyatt’s commands to the t, to the boy’s delight.
Cara really helped boost Wyatt’s confidence when it came to Pokémon and his dream of becoming a great trainer. She helped so much, in fact, that he was soon trying to convince his parents that he should go on a journey of his own. His father had no problem readily agreeing, but his mother, always overprotective of her ‘baby boy’, required a great deal more persuasion, but with all the stubborn genes in the family working against her, however, she eventually gave in. Upon her suggestion that he journey across Hoenn, his father slyly suggested a region known as Kairuu instead, one Wyatt had barely heard of. When he asked why, his father simply grinned as if he knew a big secret and wouldn’t tell Wyatt anything more. Naturally, Wyatt’s curiosity was piqued enough that he promptly changed his plans, to the chagrin of his mother.
I'd wake up to the sound of your voice.
