Name: James "Jamie" Kurnel
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Ethnicity: French, American
Job: Jamie runs an adoption agency of sorts.
Clothing Style: Essentially, Jamie likes wearing whatever’s comfortable, at the same time combining comfort with clothes that can handle whatever gets thrown his way. He’s particularly fond of vests with pockets, all of which tend to hold various small items that he uses around the agency.
Personality: Jamie enjoys running his little ‘Pokémon shelter’, but there are still times when he can’t help but wish that he could continue his traveling, if only for a little while. When the desire gets too strong, or when he has younger Pokémon who have yet to be adopted, he is willing and ready to battle anyone who asks… but for the most part, he focuses more on caring for the Pokémon currently residing in his agency. Because of the agency, he has a strong sense of responsibility, and is very patient, not to mention willing to help anyone out who needs it. (On an unrelated note, there is also a part of him that’s fairly flirtatious, but it comes out rarely due to the company he normally keeps.)
History: When starting out on his own Pokémon journey, Jamie never thought he’d end up where he is now. His plan had been what most Pokémon breeders wanted to do with their lives, and he was happy to try and reach that goal through traveling across the lands of Kairuu. Unfortunately, things don’t always end up as they’re supposed to.
A few months into his journey, Jamie’s grandmother unexpectedly fell ill. By the time the news reached him, she was bedridden, and by the time he dashed back to his hometown, she had already passed away. Distraught as he was about her death, he was affected even more to hear that no one was willing to take care of the few elderly Pokémon companions that his grandmother had lived with. Upon hearing that they would be sent to the nearest adoption agency if no one would take them in, Jamie stepped forward, deciding that he was willing to halt his journey, at least temporary. He knew that the chances of them being adopted were small, especially because he knew that most people wanted to adopt young Pokémon filled with potential for battling, rather than older ones.
‘Temporary’ developed over time into ‘permanently on hiatus’. The Pokémon he was now in charge of were too old to travel with him, and were too used to human companionship to be able to remain in storage for any long length of time. On top of that, a relative of one of his close friends in town died a few months after his grandmother, and his friend, who didn’t want the Pokémon left to him by his relative, asked Jamie to take them instead. Jamie accepted.
Over time, he received more and more Pokémon that, while they weren’t necessarily unwanted, were unable to be taken care of properly. Eventually, he set up a place of his own where he took care of the Pokémon and offered them out to anyone willing to give them a good home. His is was popular with families of children too young to go out and get their own Pokémon, as well as older people who enjoyed having Pokémon as companions.
